Journey to Relaxation.
Some say a journey starts with a single step. Sometimes it starts with a glass of champagne and a bubble bath. It didn't take long for me to get relaxed. I like this exercise because it is short, and when you have kids sometimes time is hard to come by. The thought of visualizing the blood pumping through my body was cool. I could really feel my arms and legs getting warm and heavy. I was really trying to push the blood with each breathe. After the exercise I really felt relaxed and rejuvenated, and just after 15 minutes. I could have easily fallen asleep during this exercise. I think sometimes your mind and body just needs that 15 minutes to calm down, rest and reboot. Everyday tasks seem easier to conquer when you are in the right frame of mind and this is one way to get there.
Your blog post starts with one of my favorite sayings, or a modification thereof: The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step - Lao Tzu.
ReplyDeleteYou're right that everything in life begins with that first step and I agree that with children it is often not easy to find "me" time.
I wish I could have fully relaxed during the relaxation process. I was able to relax my breathing, but not my arms. I had a hard time visualizing my blood pumping through my body. I think part of the problem I had when relaxing was that I was at work (even though I didn't have a call all night) and that I have a hard time relaxing in general. I do much better relaxing to non-guided relaxation methods.
Have you tried any other relaxation methods? If so, what do you find is your favorite?
I absolutely agree! That 15 minutes was a nice little chunk of heaven (even though I had to restart it a few times) haha. I agree that with kids it so great to find things that are short and sweet. I really want to make time for the stuff that takes longer as well. I also felt my arms tingling and get heavy. Did your arms feel cooler and lighter when the activity came to a close? I loved that I felt so rejuvenated when it was all over!
